Well, following their example, the internet industry has established a number of award schemes for top class websites from around the world; and some of them even have a red carpet as well! The basis of the selection of websites is generally Design, Interactivity, Navigation and Graphics. While these awards provide a forum to recognize the talent behind the making of some incredible websites, at the same time are a major source of inspiration for a number of web designers.

There are a number of web design awards among which the following are the most prominent:

Favourite Website Awards

Operating since 2000, the FWA (Favourite Website Awards) is considered to be the most popular and top rated in the internet industry. Receiving more than 2 million hits in a month, FWA features a “Site of the Day”, “Site of the Month” as well as a “Site of the Year”. Has a pretty clean interface with thumbnails for easy navigation.

Webby Awards

Established in 1997, the Webby Awards is being operated by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and showcases some of the very best web designs in a number of different categories. It also presents another honor named as ” The People’s Voice Award”, where the online community can nominate a website in a particular category. Check out the winners of the 13th Annual Awards.

The CSS Awards

The CSS Awards are given to the best CSS websites in the world from the top designers, agencies and bloggers working today. Websites are selected for the “Site of the Day” and “Site of the Month”.

Creative Website Awards

Creative Website Awards showcases some of the best flash websites and features top designs on a monthly basis.

Interactive Media Awards

Created by the Interactive Media Council, the Interactive Media Awards™ honors the highest standard of web design. Entries are judged on the criteria of Design, Content, Feature Functionality, Usability, and Standards Compliance & Cross-Browser Compatibility.

WebAward

Operating since 1997 by the Web Marketing Association, the WebAward grants annual honors to websites in about 100 categories based on Design, Innovation, Content and Interactivity.

W³ Awards

Presented by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, the W³ Awards honors creative excellence on the Web, and recognized the creative and marketing professionals behind award winning Sites, Videos and Marketing Programs.

World Wide Designers

“World Wide Designers” was established by talented and creative designers from 3 different countries in 2008. WWD have been awarding and advertising web site designers from all around the world. You can submit your web site to designers directory and have a chance to get “Web site of the week” Award.

American Design Awards

Founded in 2000 by design educator Brandon McKay, as well as graphic design professionals Kevin and Art Javid in San Diego, California, the American Design Awards is among the top internationally recognized design awards organizations and claims to have more than 35000 submissions annually.

Black Weblog Awards

The Black Web Awards was founded in 2005 to give recognition to Black bloggers (and those of the African diaspora) which were largely overlooked by other Internet award events online. What started out as a barely-known event has now grown into an international showcase. With participants from over 90 countries, the Black Weblog Awards stands out as one of the most widespread Internet award events for Black bloggers.
